Our Teaching Methodology
When LEARNING is done through exploration in a fun, enjoyable and safe environment, children learn faster and retain their skills longer. One of the fundamental key elements in our coaching technique is teaching our students an in-depth understanding of the water first. This is unique way of teaching swimming that educates children & adults alike to learn to “adapt in the water” for a lifetime through safety and enjoyment.
At C.A.R.L., our personalized system is performance based; where coaching is done at an individual’s comfortable pace even when the lessons are taught in groups. This allows the individual to progress in a non-threatening learning environment, to pick up and adapt to the skills easily.
The Important of Swimming Lessons
DROWNING IS A SILENT EVENT …. AND IT IS PREVENTABLE!!
Announcing this in Parliament on Tuesday, 19 July 2005, Minister for Community Development, Youth and Sports, Vivian Balakrishnan said “Every single death by drowning was one too many”. Between year 2001 and 2004, there was an average of 17 cases of drowning each year – 41% occurred at sea, 13% in rivers and 10% in swimming pool and reservoirs. Singapore Sports Council (SSC) is looking at encouraging more youths to learn swimming as a life-skill. If a person is able to swim, he is less likely to drown. C.A.R.L. shares the SSC’s concern and is in deep consideration for children who quickly learn lifesaving swimming skill and just as quickly forget those skills due to a lack of opportunity to practice over a long period of time. We strongly encourage parents to spread out swim lessons with at least once or twice a week schedule, year round. Would you consider giving your child 12 weeks of piano lessons and then quitting for the next 40 weeks? Swim lessons (like piano lessons) require ongoing reinforcement and repetition. Choose your child’s schedule of learning carefully.
Only swimming skills that are remembered can save a life.

At C.A.R.L., We Redefine Swimming Lessons
- We believe swimming lessons are an investment for life, so all C.A.R.L. coaches are highly skilled and nationally accredited with NROC and/or AUSTSWIM certification. C.A.R.L. is also Royal Life Saving accredited and our highly qualified coaching staffs are well trained presenters in CPR and First Aid.
- We believe most drowning can be prevented by teaching a child to swim well and by educating adults about the importance of supervision regardless of swimming ability.
- We teach a depth of understanding and proficiency in the water that leads to a healthy respect and allows each child to explore and enjoy the water.
- We strive to provide the best learning environment possible so every student will be able to experience the joys of water and the thrill of attaining new skills.
- We feel our methods aid your child's development of self-confidence, self worth and purpose by showing a child, through love, affection, and fun that their goals can be accomplished.
- We know swimming, when taught well, provides a lifetime of enjoyment and water safety, It is an excellent way to get cardiovascular exercise and is also a great stress reducer.
- We are committed to make our learn-to-swim program an enjoyable and fun experience. That's why our classes are small to allow more individual attention, with students and instructor ratio of 8:1. Your regular attendance and loving praise also helps.
- We produce incredible results because we do not push our students beyond what they can emotionally accept and physically accomplish.
- We create swimmers who are at ease in the water and learn new stroke skills naturally.
- Our competitive prices are reflective of the excellence of service that you deserve.
